School Board Appoints Pat Skorkowsky as Superintendent

LAS VEGAS - The Clark County Board of School Trustees appointed Pat Skorkowsky as the next superintendent of the school district Tuesday night.

The appointment was a stunning turn of events. The school board was set to vote on whether or not to hire a firm to conduct a national search to find former Superintendent Dwight Jones's replacement. Instead, board members ended up scrapping the nationwide search and interviewing Interim Superintendent Skorkowsky on the spot.

The move comes after more than a month of town hall meetings to get parent and community input on the search. The school district hosted a total of twelve meetings and heard from 620 people.

The Board of School Trustees will still have to finalize Skorkowsky's appointment with a contract. The board voted 7-0 to enter negotiations with Skorkowsky.
