School bus with 37 students on board involved in crash

LAS VEGAS - For the second time in three weeks, a Clark County School Bus has crashed on its way to a school campus.

In this case, the students were not seriously hurt, but the other driver involved is still in critical condition.

It happened just before 9 Thursday morning in the southwest valley, near Fort Apache and Sunset roads. There were 37 middle school students on the bus.

Witnesses called it a nasty accident. Luckily for the students, they're fine

"Everyone's just joking around," said student Alexis Sherod.

It was just a normal day.

"Kids being kids I guess."

A trip to school that came to a sudden and unexpected stop.

"I was on my phone when it happened," said Nevaeh Evans, a student.

"I was on my phone and I heard screeching," Sherod added.

"It felt like the brakes were going on and then we slammed into the seat," said student Delaney Lindboe.

This bus destined for Faiss Middle School had a different destiny Thursday morning. It smashed into the side of an SUV just a mile from campus.

"There was dust and stuff," Sherod said. "I look on the other side and I see a car just flip this way."

There were 37 students and a driver on the bus. It didn't take long for the word to get out to parents.

"I got a phone call saying the bus crashed," said Xavier Bolar, a parent. "I rushed down here full speed and I didn't care about anything else."

When parents got to the scene, they learned the relatively good news. Eight children and the bus driver *were taken to the hospital. Aside from some bumps and scrapes, everyone on the bus was fine. Inside the SUV, the situation was more serious. The woman driving was in critical condition, her child who was in the back seat also suffered some injuries but is stable.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

All students remember hearing were the brakes and the crash. All parents have is the muted relief it all wasn't worse.

This is the second serious CCSD bus crash in three weeks. In that crash, another driver ran a red light causing the accident.
