Settlement of $200K in family court marshal groping case

LAS VEGAS -- A woman who filed lawsuits against District Court after she was allegedly groped by a family court marshal will receive a settlement of $200,000 from the state.

The I-Team has also uncovered that Ron Fox, the marshal accused of the groping, could also get a large cash settlement.

Monica Contreras sued after internal affairs investigators validated her claim she was groped by Fox. The I-Team first reported the story in March 2013 when a videotape surfaced showing a court hearing with Contreras where she accuses court marshal Ron Fox of sexually touching her during a search. Contreras told the family court hearing master, but was ignored. Fox arrested Contreras in front of her young daughter for making false claims against a police officer. Both Fox and the hearing master lost their jobs.

Fox sued for wrongful termination. He denies the allegations.  He is suing Clark County. Sources familiar with the negotiations tells the I-Team, Fox is likely to get more than two years of back pay. That could mean a settlement between $150,000 to $200,000.

A federal grand jury continues to investigate possible criminal charges against Fox and other family court marshals for other incidents.
