Sexual Assault Suspect Wrote Apology Letter

LAS VEGAS -- The man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl wrote her an apology letter, Metro Police officials said.

Everardo Mata-Zuniga, 53, was arrested last week on two counts of sexual assault of a victim under 14 years old. The incidents allegedly occurred between 2010 and 2013. Mata-Zuniga has been working as an unlicensed food vendor near apartment complexes near Pennwood Avenue and Arville Street.

According to Mata-Zuniga's arrest report, his letter asked for forgiveness from the girl and her family. It is unclear if the letter was given to the girl's family. Mata-Zuniga did tell police he showed the girl pornography, but denied sexually assaulting her, the report said.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning possible additional victims of Mata-Zuniga to contact Metro's Sexual Assault Section at 828-3421.
