Metro: Stepson shot after passerby witnesses him stabbing stepdad

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police released more details Thursday evening about a shooting and stabbing that occurred near the intersection of Tropicana and Missouri avenues.

Officers were dispatched to the area around 9 a.m. Thursday morning after to investigate reports of a shooting.  When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been stabbed numerous times, along with a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to Metro Police, before the shooting, a passerby noticed a suspicious interaction inside a vehicle due to it rocking back and forth.  Police said the passerby stopped and approached the vehicle and saw a man, later identified as 30-year-old James Garcia, who is the stepson of the victim, actively stabbing his stepfather. 

The passerby, who is a CCW holder, had a firearm and screamed at Garcia to stop.  However, Garcia began to walk towards the passerby then stopped and returned to the vehicle
where it appeared he might stab the victim once again. 

Metro said the passerby then fired his weapon several times striking Garcia once in the stomach. 

Garcia and his stepfather were taken to Sunrise hospital where they are currently listed in stable condition.  James Garcia currently faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
