SPEEDVEGAS to reopen next week

LAS VEGAS - SPEEDVEGAS is expected to reopen to the public next week, according to a statement on the racetrack's Facebook page.

"We would like to thank the community and our industry colleagues for their outpouring of support at this time. We will reopen next week and will announce that date shortly."

SPEEDVEGAS has been closed ever since a fiery crash claimed the life of two people Sunday, Feb. 12. According to Metro Police, a client was driving the Lamborghini on the SpeedVegas racetrack with an instructor in the car.

Investigators say the client, a man in his 30's, lost control and crashed into a wall and then the car erupted in flames.  The driving instructor, Gil Ben-Kely, was riding in the passenger seat at the time of the wreck.

Ben-Kely leaves behind a wife and two kids.  The identity of the student driver has yet to be released.
