Stamp marking Nevada's 150th unveiled

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A new postage stamp celebrating Nevada's 150th birthday was unveiled in Las Vegas.

The new design was revealed Thursday in a ceremony at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts that featured Nevada's senators, governor and others. The stamp itself will be available at post offices nationwide on Friday.

The stamp features a close-up image of Fire Canyon, which is part of Valley of Fire State Park in southern Nevada. Reno artist Ron Spears painted the canyon as the rising sun hit the sandstone formations in the park.

Spears is the lead artist for slot machine manufacturer International Game Technology and has illustrated dozens of video games.
