State stepping in to help young man with rare disease

LAS VEGAS -- The young Las Vegas man with a rare and potentially deadly disorder is getting additional help from the State Health Department.

State health officials tell the I-Team nearly $10,000 is going to the family of 18-year-old Acar're McCombs.

Acar're has a rare disease that makes exposure to sunlight and unfiltered water potentially deadly. The State Health and Human Services Department gathered the money to help pay for rent in Acar're new home.

After reviewing eligibility requirements, state health officials say Acar're's mother should be able to live in the home with her son despite credit problems.

The state assistance does not fix all of Acar're's needs.

A check donation can be sent for Acar're McCombs, to the Nevada Public Health Foundation, 3579 HWY 50, Suite C, Carson City, NV 89701. Please write Acar're's name on the check.
