Substitute teacher arrested for attempted sexual misconduct with student

LAS VEGAS - A substitute teacher within the Clark County School District was arrested Thursday for attempted sexual misconduct with a student.

Clark County School District Police says detectives found out about the incident involving 25-year-old Garic Wharton, II on May 18.  According to CCSDPD, police received a tip from another student that Wharton was engaging in sexually explicit conversations with a 16-year-old student.

In a message posted Thursday on CCSDPD's Facebook page, Wharton was in contact with the student, who attends South Academic Center, via social media.

Wharton has been removed from his teaching duties.  He had been employed with the district since February 2017.

There weren't any other details released.
