Suspect in Officer-Involved Shooting Dies

LAS VEGAS -- A man shot by police after reportedly lunging at them with a knife after breaking into a home wearing only underwear died Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at a house in the 9000 block of Crystal Rock Circle near Gillespie Street and Pebble Road.

Police say the incident began Tuesday evening, when a mentally disturbed man entered a home.

Investigators say the homeowner found the man watching television inside the home. The man was armed with a butcher knife.

The homeowner called 911 and, after hours of negotiations, SWAT officers entered the home. The suspect lunged at officers who then shot him.

Police have not specified how many times officers shot the suspect. They are also investigating why he was in the home in the first place.

Emergency crews transported the suspect to University Medical Center in serious condition.
