The I-Team gets a look at lavish items from CCSD program

LAS VEGAS -- Persian rugs, expensive furniture and even a waterfall.

The I-Team got a first-hand look at the lavish accommodations confiscated from inside Clark County School District portables.

The former school district administrator is facing dozens of criminal charges for misusing and stealing public money.

The I-Team was the first to uncover the probe into Priscilla Rocha. Rocha ran the Adult English Language Acquisition Services Program. It had offices in portables at two locations.

The items from those offices are now stored at a warehouse. Several shelves in that warehouse are filled with what the school district calls "non standard" items from the AELAS program.

It is stored at the food services warehouse because of the sheer volume of furnishings.

The items include high-end chairs, Persian rugs, even a fireplace, while the school district figures out how they were paid for. Investigators suspect public money was used and because school purchasing safeguards should have prevented furniture like this from being ordered they want to know how it got here.

After the investigation and court case are wrapped up, school district police say a decision will be made.

"When that conclusion is made, we will determine if we can repurpose those items in the district," Clark County School District Police Sgt. Mitch Maciszak said.

During grand jury testimony revealed by the I-Team, Assistant School Superintendent Tammy Malich said she was shocked to see expensive furniture, pottery, waterfalls and even a fireplace when she visited Rocha's offices for the first time.

That was the day before the police raid. It apparently went un-noticed before then. We asked to see inside the portables three weeks ago, but our request was denied. Instead five large moving trucks showed up to move the furniture.
