Thousands Head to Las Vegas for Mexican Independence Day

LAS VEGAS - Thousands of Latinos are heading to Las Vegas this weekend to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

McCarran International Airport added nine flights to Las Vegas specifically for this weekend. The Strip will be packed with tourists from around the world, not just those from Mexico.

International superstars will be here to perform, including singer Alejandro Fernandez at the MGM Grand, singer Luis Miguel at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, guitar legend Carlos Santana at Mandalay Bay and singer Enrique Iglesias at the Cosmopolitan.

A championship fight between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Canelo Alvarez also takes place this weekend.

McCarran Airport welcomed thousands of Mexican tourists Thursday. Many are ready to celebrate their independence.

Margarita Rebollal with Community Services of Nevada is Puerto Rican, but she started the first Hispanic International Day Parade in Las Vegas.

"People come, and they want to celebrate, and they want to spend and let me tell you, we get many, many people coming in from Mexico alone," she said. "This is a major event. We have so many Hispanic events going on and so many famous stars coming to town."

No matter your race, she says Las Vegas will have something for everyone to enjoy this weekend.

Everyone is invited to celebrate Mexican Independence Day at the Fiesta Las Vegas Parade and Festival. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on 4th Street between Gass Avenue and Stewart Avenue. The festival takes place from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Fremont Street Experience.

If you can't make it to the parade, you can watch it on Cox Cable Channel 96.
