Trout Canyon Residents Go Home

MT. CHARLESTON -- The massive Carpenter 1 wildfire is now 70% contained. As fire activity starts slowing some residents are finally being allowed to go back home.

Saturday, residents of Trout and Lovell Canyon made their way back to survey the damage near their homes. It was emotional morning for many homeowners.

Kendell Foreman said it's been more than a week of not knowing whether she'd ever see her home in Trout Canyon again.

"I'm thankful to be in my own bed," said Foreman. Saturday morning she was all smiles as her family waited to go back up the mountain.

After passing through a metro checkpoint, the Red Cross was there to help her with clean up kits and bottled water. Her home is one of the nearly two dozen who won't have running water because of a pipe line break.

"We've given them in some cases five or six cases of drinking water," said David Hill, a volunteer for the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Red Cross.

As Foreman gets on the move she said she's anxious to see what condition her property is in.

"We have a very large pond and we allowed firefighters to drain that essentially and that's OK. If it saves our home, it saves our home," said Foreman.
