LAS VEGAS -- A father may be getting a small bit of closure following the arrest of two suspects police say are responsible for his son's death.
The two men are accused of running over 15-year-old Marcos Arenas last week while trying to steal his iPad from him. Arenas died from his injuries at UMC Trauma.
Police say 21-year-old Michael Solid was driving the getaway vehicle. Investigators believe 18- year-old Jacob Dismont was the one who jumped out of the SUV and dragged Arenas to the passenger side door.
On Sunday, dozens of people gathered to wash cars and help the family raise money to pay for the teen's funeral.
"It warms my heart to know that my baby touched so many hearts in so little time," said the boy's father, Ivan Arenas. Marcos is his oldest child.
Some people pulled up to the car wash in tears, many of them got out of their cars to hug Ivan Arenas. Ivan said, knowing two suspects have been arrested is helping him get through a difficult time.
"At least I know they can't try the same thing, and maybe take somebody else's baby away," he said.
Police say tips led them to finding the getaway vehicle and the two men. Solid and Dismont have been charged with open murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and robbery. Solid has an arrest record that includes car theft, robbery, and assault.
"It's sort of relief," the boy's aunt, Katrina said. "We know that they're off the streets and they won't hurt anyone else."
"I feel closure and I feel he's going to get justice," Maribela Arenas said. "They need to pay for what they did to him."
Ivan says Marcos had a powerful. While he struggles in grief, he finds strength in the boy's memory.
"To fight to the end like he did," said Ivan. "I'm just trying to live up his dream and fight, and fight."
According to police, the two men and Arenas had never met before the deadly robbery. Investigators say Michael Solid was the man in the gas station surveillance picture released by police during the search.
