Unmarked police vehicle, equipment, uniform stolen in burglary

LAS VEGAS - Investigators are searching for an unmarked police vehicle which was stolen from a garage during a residential burglary. 

The incident happened on October 9 between 3:45 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. in the area of S. Pavilion Center Drive and Alta Drive.

The vehicle was operated by a department employee and had department equipment inside, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The equipment included a 9mm black handgun, police radio, tactical vest with police insignia, police identification card, LVMPD police badge, yellow police jacket, electronic control device (Taser), and tan patrol uniform.

The stolen vehicle was a white 2007 Nissan Maxima with Nevada license plate 003UHM. The car has police lights and siren. 

Authorities with LVMPD want to warn people to be wary if stopped by an unmarked car. They say you should ask the following questions to make sure the officer is authentic. 

  • Call 911 and verify the legitimacy of the officer
  • Request the officer show picture identification
  • Pull over in a populated area, such as a parking lot
  • Drive to a well-lit area if the stop occurs at night
  • Ask the officer to request a marked unit respond

If you see the stolen vehicle, you're asked to call 911 immediately.
