Man taken into custody after 5-hour barricade

LAS VEGAS - A barricade in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood ended after five hours with the suspect being taken into custody.

A woman and child were able to safely get out of the home a few hours after the incident started. The woman told police she got into an argument with her husband that turned physical.

"We just woke up and there was a woman screaming bloody murder, just screaming and a child yelling 'help me' and then it kind of died down and that's when we heard the megaphone and the cop saying we are not allowed to leave until this is resolved peacefully," said neighbor Shawn Callahan.

The barricade began around 7:30 a.m. when police received reports of a woman and child screaming from the balcony of a townhouse in the 8600 block of Tom Noon Avenue near Durango Drive and Blue Diamond Road.

The woman and child were able to escape with the help of a fire truck ladder.

According to Metro police, the man has been identified as Russell Deck and he is a convicted felon wanted out of Flagstaff, Arizona on a parole violation.

It took SWAT negotiators hours to convince the man to surrender.

Several streets were closed off in the area and residents were asked to stay in their homes during the barricade.

Deck was booked into jail on a domestic violence charge.
