UPDATE: Couple dead after argument leads to murder-suicide

LAS VEGAS - Police say a couple is dead and a child in protective custody following a shooting investigation Sunday afternoon.

Officers rushed to the scene after they received a call from a man who said he accidentally shot his wife in the stomach.

The incident happened at 4155 W. Twain Avenue around 2:27 p.m.

The man told police his wife was not breathing, according to Lt. Dan McGrath, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. When police arrived, they found a man and woman dead.

There was a 9-year-old inside the residence at the time of the incident, but was not harmed, Lt. McGrath added. Counseling services are on the way to help the child.

Investigators say the couple was arguing prior to the shooting. LVMPD wants to remind people to reach out for help before a situation escalates to violence.

"When you have no history at all and no calls to police, it's hard to say if someone could have intervened," Lt. McGrath said. "I've already requested those reports so we'll see what comes out of it."

A neighbor who spoke with 8 News NOW heard the gunshots and says she's never seen violence like Sunday's incident in the eight years she's lived there.

Child Protective Services and councilors responded to help the 9-year-old boy.
