Valley kids to receive free eye exams, glasses in mobile unit

LAS VEGAS — A new mobile unit in southern Nevada is giving kids a chance to check their vision for free — through mobile eye exams.

Philanthropist Elaine Wynn partnered with Eye Care 4 Kids to bring a mobile eye care clinic right here to the valley. It will drive to different schools throughout Clark County and give kids eye exams, vision screenings, and new glasses.

About 25 percent of children struggling in school have undiagnosed vision problems, according to the group.

"We saw the need of how many children went without eye glasses because their parents weren't able to afford them or the children didn't know or the children were afraid to ask for the glasses because they knew their parents didn't have the money, " said founder Joseph Carbone.

Adults are also allowed to use the mobile eye exam unit, which was made possible by a $1 million donation by the Elaine Wynn and Family Foundation.
