Vegas team wins U.S. Youth Soccer national championship

LAS VEGAS - A team from Las Vegas has become the first team from Nevada to win a U.S. Youth Soccer national championship.

The LVPSA 03 Red team won the national title Saturday in Frisco, Texas, beating a team from Michigan 2-0 in the final match.  They finished their amazing run with 21 wins, three ties, and just one loss.

Coach Mike Madrid credits the team's chemistry and friendship with their success. Many of the girls have played under Madrid the past five to seven years.

"This team has great chemistry," said Madrid. "We are one big family that loves soccer."

Madrid said the team travels out of state to league games and tournaments about 10 times a year.

"Winning the National Championship would not have been possible if it weren't for all the parent's dedication and commitment to this team," said Madrid.

Madrid and the 14U champs joined Brian and Kirsten in the studio Wednesday morning.
