Verdict Reached in 311 Boyz Attempted Murder Trial

(June 2) 10 p.m. -- A jury has found that a Las Vegas teen is not guilty of attempted murder for a brutal attack involving a rock.

The jury deliberated Wednesday night until a verdict was reached. Defendant Scott Morse said he didn't throw any of the rocks that seriously injured Stephen Tanner Hansen and two other teens at a party last July.

Jurors said that credibility issues raised doubt in the case. Scott Morse was found not guilty on all 12 counts. The charges included coercion, battery with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder.

As soon as the verdict was read, Morses' family and friends burst into cries of joy and relief. Morse looked tense as verdict was read. The teenager was accused of nearly killing Stephen Tanner Hansen.

Hansen was left disfigured after rocks were hurled at the truck he was riding in. Other boys involved in the case took plea agreements and testified against Morse. But the jury felt there was too much reasonable doubt.

"There was a lot of conflicting testimony, pro and con and the reasonable doubt issue was what led us to our verdict because we felt reasonable doubt did exist," said Jim Ellison, jury foreman.

Morse did not want to comment but his mother did. "I knew he was innocent, I was just afraid everyone else wouldn't see it that way, we've always told my son to own up to be held accountable, for what they've done, and I'm glad it's over," said Tammy Morse, defendant's mother.

The victim, Hansen looked down and sat expressionless when the verdict was read. His family was escorted out of the courtroom separately by a baliff and did not talk to the media.

Morse, who is 19 years old, was the only teen to go to court in the 311 Boyz case. The other teens decided to take plea agreements.
