More than 1,200 volunteers gathered at Town Square Friday morning to begin their Day of Caring for United Way.

The volunteers spent the day completing 99 volunteer projects which benefit 23 nonprofit agencies and 16 elementary and middle schools.

Some of the activities included beautification projects, planting gardens and painting murals, assembling dental kids and cleaning books.

Their goal was to make a difference in the community.
