Woman charged in crash that killed girl, 9

LAS VEGAS — The woman behind the wheel of an SUV that crashed on I-15 in early July and killed a young girl was arrested Wednesday. Three other children were hurt in the crash, one of which remains in the hospital.

Wendy Carrion, 22, of Las Vegas, was headed north on I-15 near D Street on July 2 when, according to state troopers, she began drifting into the next lane. She "overcorrected," which caused the SUV to flip.

Three young girls, ages 4, 6, and 9, were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the Ford Explorer, according to NHP. All were taken to University Medical Center, where the 9-year-old later died.

According to troopers, a 6-year-old remains in the hospital. In total, there were six children inside the car.

Troopers say Carrion was driving without a valid license and "neglected the safety for two of the six juveniles by not ensuring (they) were properly restrained." She faces several charges, including involuntary manslaughter, no valid driver license, and child neglect.
