LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas mom has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of child abuse with substantial bodily harm after police say she threw her two children out of a two-story window and then jumped out herself.
Police have charged Luz Robledo Ibarra, 35, of Las Vegas in absentia because she is still in the hospital recovering from a broken pelvis.
According to the arrest report, police were called to the home near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road at around 6 a.m. June 12 on a report that a woman was threatening to commit suicide by jumping out of the second story window of the home.
When officers arrived, they found the suspect's mother holding her 6-month-old grandson, who had just been thrown from the window and was bleeding from his head. They also found a 2-year-old with blood coming from her head and mouth. The suspect was lying nearby.
In the report, Ibarra told police she had been very depressed and overwhelmed with the responsibility of being a mother to three young children.
Ibarra said she had heard a voice telling her to throw her babies out the window and then throw herself out. She told officers that she threw her 2-year-old daughter out of the window first and then grabbed her 6-month-old baby from his crib and threw him out, before she jumped.
The two children are recovering from serious injuries.
