Woman dead after fall from freeway overpass

LAS VEGAS - Police are investigating a death near Summerlin Parkway and U.S. 95 where police say a woman jumped from a freeway overpass Tuesday morning.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott says at least one vehicle struck the woman about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when she landed on the transition ramp from eastbound Summerlin Parkway to southbound U.S. 95.

Two other vehicles also crashed beneath the Rainbow Boulevard overpass, but Elliott says no other injuries were reported.

The transition road was closed for several hours and traffic was diverted to a carpool lane overpass while authorities investigated.

Elliott says Las Vegas police are handling the death as a suicide.
