Woman dead following stabbing, man in critical condition

LAS VEGAS - A woman is dead and a man in critical condition following a stabbing Sunday afternoon at an apartment complex.

The incident happened around 11:47 a.m. near Bonanza Road and Rancho Drive when one of the man's family members received an unusual phone call from him and called 911.

Police found the man and woman, both in their 40's, suffering from stab wounds, according to Lt. Dan McGrath, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police department.

Medical responders rushed both people to University Medical Center where the woman died. The man is in critical condition, Lt. McGrath said.

Investigators are now looking into if the couple had a history of domestic violence.

"If you're a neighbor and you hear screaming and yelling, please call the police, that's our job," Lt. McGrath said. "We'll come out and try to separate the parties and take someone to jail if we have to but understand you may prevent somebody from getting injured or killed."

At this point in the investigation, investigators believe the man appears to be the aggressor. He had wounds to his neck and hand which may be self-inflicted.
