Woman in missing girl case appears in court

LAS VEGAS — The biological mother, who does not have custody, accused of taking her 3-year-old daughter from a party in North Las Vegas made her first court appearance on Tuesday.

A judge set Shelly Mitchell's bail at $50,000. She currently faces a felony charge, but more charges are still pending, according to the district attorney's office.

Her next court date has not been set.

Mitchell reportedly took three-year-old Katies Battle from a party in North Las Vegas. Both were missing for a week before they were found this past weekend. The girl is with Child Protective Services. Battle's father and maternal grandmother told 8 News NOW they are both trying to get custody of the girl.
