A Las Vegas woman says Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Gibbons assaulted her in a parking garage last Friday.
Congressman Gibbons gave his side of the story during a news conference Thursday afternoon. He says he was walking the woman to her car and was simply helping her after she tripped.
Chrissy Mazzeo's account of what happened is much different.
Although Mazzeo has decided to not file charges, she does not take back any of the assault accusations she made against Gibbons.
Some recently released 911 tapes show Mazzeo's account of what happened moments after the alleged attack.
Mazzeo claims Jim Gibbons was flirting with her during drinks at McCormick and Schmick's seafood restaurant last Friday night. But it's what happened after drinks that's causing the controversy.
Mazzeo told police Gibbons was walking her to her truck, but once inside the parking garage, she says gibbons physically attacked. Mazzeo says it was all part of a sexual advance.
Mazzeo claims she took off running, out of the garage and to a nearby Starbucks where she called 911.
She tells a 911 operator her account of what happened:
Mazzeo: "He grabbed my arms, shoved me back and told me to shut up."
Mazzeo: "I'm hoping there are cameras because you are going to see an assault."
But the police report says those surveillance cameras weren't recording.
Operator: "Okay, what do you need police for right now?"
Mazzeo: "He just assaulted me in the parking lot. I just want to be saved."
Mazzeo admits to the operator she and Gibbons had been drinking.
After the alleged assault, she called 911 three times and eventually made her way to Gordon Biersch where she met police to tell her story.
Meanwhile, Gibbons was in his hotel room at the Marriott where he was questioned the next day.
Mazzeo said she did not want to file charges against Gibbons because she didn't want to ruin his political career and also did not want to be a part of a three-ring circus.
Eyewitness News tried to reach her for comment, but our calls were not returned.
