Woman slashed, robbed near downtown Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police officers are searching for a man who slashed a woman with a knife and stole her purse early Tuesday morning near downtown Las Vegas.

The victim, a woman in her 60's, told police a man approached her outside an apartment building near Stewart Avenue, just south of US 95, around 1 a.m.  She said the man slashed her arms and hands with a knife and then stole her purse, which contained cash, her identification, and bank card.

According to Metro Lt. David Gordon, the woman was able to walk to a nearby convenience store, where she asked the clerk to call 911.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening cuts to her arms and hands.

The attacker got away on foot.  Police have not released a detailed description of who they are looking for.
