Young Child Drowns in Pool in Henderson

A 1-year-old toddler has drowned in Henderson. Her mother found her floating in a pool Monday morning. Neighbors say the 1-year-old had just started walking.

More than a half dozen police arrived on scene after getting a 911 call from the child's mother just before 10 a.m. They found the mother in the living room giving CPR to the child.

Police took over, and the child was transported to St. Rose Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

"They were very quiet people, and they were excited about this baby. And this is their first child and so it is very sad," said neighbor John Barlion.

Neighbors say they knew something was wrong when they saw the ambulance that had raced in, was leaving very slowly with no lights or siren on.

This is the first pool drowning this year in Henderson. Police say it's important this time of year to make sure you have your back doors locked if you have a pool.

There wasn't a security gate around the pool. And this is the case for many older homes around the valley that had pools built before the laws were changed.
