LAS VEGAS - Concerns about the speed limit and a lane reduction in a residential neighborhood prompted an 8NewsNow viewer to reach out.
Brina writes: "The southwest area is an amazing part of the valley.Housing has increased on Durango between Windmill and Blue Diamond, yet the speed limit remains at 45mph. There should be either a decrease in speed limit or at least speed "humps" on the street. Also, at Windmill and Durango, the lane shifts from 2 to 1 and some cars to have to speed up or be driven off the road. It's dangerous for pedestrians, especially children."
We took some video at Durango and Windmill and Brina's right about the confusion when two lanes go down to one. The cars we saw appeared to be obeying the speed limit. We checked with Clark County. Spokesman Dan Kulin wrote:
"We do not have plans to decrease the speed limit in that area, however, we do plan to widen and restripe sections of Durango in that area so there will be two continuous lanes in each direction. We expect the improvements will be made sometime this summer."
