LAS VEGAS - A man accused of crashing his car into a group of boys and killing three of them told police his gas pedal got stuck which caused him to take his eyes off the road and crash into the kids, according to his arrest report.
Joseph Eskandarian, 28, is facing charges for the deadly crash which occurred on Saturday, Sept. 30 around 9 p.m. on E. Desert Inn and Theme roads in east Las Vegas.
Three boys, 12, 13 and 14 years old, were killed. Another boy, 13, was seriously injured. Eskandarian left the scene of the crash. Police were able to track him down after the crash because they found an old ticket in the car with his name on it and an address.
According to the arrest report, when police confronted him at his home, he initially told them his car had been stolen. He then changed his story and said the gas pedal had become stuck and when he reached down to see what the problem was, he took his eyes off the road and crashed into a light pole and the kids.
The report said, he told police, he ran because he hit people and he "freaked out." He said, he went to his home because he knew he was in big trouble and wanted to spend his last moments of freedom with his family.
Eskandarian is charged with four counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.
The boys killed were identified by the Clark County coroner as 13-year-old Deandre Lyle of Las Vegas, 14-year-old Francisco Miramontes of Las Vegas and 12-year-old Danny Miramontes of Las Vegas.
