Bail was increased to $250,000 for a personal injury attorney accused of stealing money from his clients.

Matthew Dunkley, 53, appeared in Henderson Justice Court Wednesday morning for his arraignment. He is charged with nine counts of theft and one count of exploitation of an elderly person.

He is accused of stealing around $1.8 million in insurance claim money that was intended to pay for medical bills for his clients, according to Metro.

In court, prosecutors said Dunkley is flight risk, claiming he evaded police and had no intent to cooperate. He had put his homes in a trust so he couldn’t be found, disconnected his phone and refused to drive any vehicles.

Bryan Cox with the public defender’s office said Dunkley is pleading not guilty and is still reviewing the case at this point.

Police believe there are likely to be more victims in this case.
