Celebrating and appreciating the Bellagio's success on its 20th anniversary

LAS VEGAS - The Bellagio Hotel and Casino on the Strip celebrated its 20th anniversary Monday.

On October 15, 1998, the casino resort opened its doors for the first time.  From the casino floor to its world-renowned restaurants, the Bellagio is one of the most famous properties on Las Vegas Boulevard.

One of the Bellagio's most popular attractions is the famous fountains. Initially, seen worldwide on the big screen for the remake of the movie Ocean's 11, the Fountain is now one of the biggest tourist attractions, along with being put on display for award show concerts, talk shows, and music videos.

Bruno Mars recorded his 24 Karat Magic music video where you see him riding a jet ski in the Fountain.  Local Band 'Panic at the Disco," also used the Bellagio Fountain when they performed the pre-game show for game 5 of the Stanley Cup final.

On Monday, in honor of the Bellagio's anniversary, there was nothing but celebrating happening inside of the resort.  The hotel was celebrating employees responsible for the success of the business.

About a fourth of the overall employees on the property, have been working there since day one.  The Bellagio employee breakroom was party central for the festivities.

"It was an incredible evening," said Roger Watson, a banquet server at the Bellagio.  "There was so much energy, and we strolled around with trays of champagne."

Watson has been working at the Bellagio since it first opened on October 15, 1998. Out of the Bellagio's 8,000 employees, 2,000 have stuck around for the past 20-years.

"It's just hard to believe that that many years went by so quickly and I count my blessings every day to be here," Watson said.

Aside from the friendly faces, the property offers a unique experience; one that is known around the world and has been featured in commercials, TV shows, and movies.

"Twenty-years later, there's more people watching the fountain show; every night and it's incredible," said Randy Morton, the president, and COO of the Bellagio Resort & Casino.

Morton says on any given day, 20,000 people walk through the Bellagio and they admire not only the fountains but also the conservatory.

The massive flower display is changed every season and takes 5-days to set up.

"We start the design process for the conservatory 9-10 months before," said Morton.

Both features have been opened since day one, along with the Cirque du Soleil show "O," which is also being celebrated with a sculpture made out of chocolate.

Even though looking honoring the history of the hotel is always good, Morton says it's also important to keep up with the times.

"We've added new amenities with Spago; Wolf Gang Puck is here," Morton said. "We're opening a new restaurant, Sadelle's in the Bellagio conservatory."

The casino is also being remodeled.  Renovations are expected to be completed by next May.

"Bellagio has kept that energy going the whole time we've been open," Watson said. "It's just a joy and a blessing to be able to work here."
