Community mourns death of woman and children killed in murder-suicide

LAS VEGAS - A Henderson community is mourning after a tragedy left almost an entire family dead.  Henderson Police said a man killed his 5-year-old son, along with his ex-girlfriend and her teenage son.  Police say the man then turned the gun on himself.

A family member told 8 News NOW the adult victim is Selina Rowsell. They have identified the suspect as Michael Franco.

The murder-suicide happened at a home near Wagonwheel Road and U.S. 95.

"There wasn't any yelling but gunshots, there were like 10 of them," said Valerie Galarza, neighbor.

Neighbors in the area say they live in a tight-knit community. They said Rowsell's kids were always playing outside. With that said, neighbors also talked about the arguments they had witnessed between the former couple.

"I think they separated about three months ago or so and he comes and picks up the little one, and there's always an argument in the street, " Galarza said. "He always leaves his car running.

8 News NOW was told that the 15-year-old teenage son who was killed went to Foothills High School. His sibling, a 17-year-old girl who is the lone survivor, also goes to the school.

8 News NOW searched court records to find restraining orders involving either of the adults, but the only thing found was two child custody cases filed by the mother.

A neighbor a few doors down says he called 9-1-1 when he heard the gunfire.

"We were looking at the house, and another four shots went off," said Donnie Barfield, neighbor.  "I saw the lights go off; boom, boom, boom. After that, a little girl ran out; I think she's 17 and ran to a neighbor's house."

On Saturday at 2 p.m. the HOA said they will host a get together for residents in the area where there will be a balloon release.

The HOA says there will also be a booth accepting donations for the family.

There is also a GoFundMe account set up for anyone wanting to donate to the family.
