Henderson Police release body camera footage of 2 deadly officer-involved shootings

HENDERSON, Nev. - Henderson Police released body camera footage Friday of two officer-involved shootings that occurred within a week of each other.

The first shooting took place on Sept. 13 around 4:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of Point Vista Avenue.  Emergency dispatchers received a call about a situation involving loud screams at a residence.

When police arrived at the scene officers could hear loud screams coming from inside of the home. Officers forced entry into the residence and encountered a male armed with a box cutter, along with a female in obvious distress.

Officers immediately began giving verbal commands at which time the man exited a closet and charged officers wielding the box cutter.

Henderson officers responded by shooting and killing the suspect.

The woman was transported to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second body camera footage released was from an incident on Sept.22.  Police said around 4:52 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Teton Ranch Avenue and Carnegie Street in reference to a violent armed robbery.

During the initial investigation, Henderson Police officers located and identified a suspect vehicle, which was observed in the area of Boulder Highway and Texas Avenue.

Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the orders, so a vehicle pursuit ensued. The driver stopped in the area of Gibson Road and Trail Canyon Road and exited his vehicle where he initially displayed a handgun in a suicidal manner before running from the area on foot.

Officer’s pursued the suspect on foot arriving in the area of Gibson Road and Auto Show Drive. The suspect still holding the handgun in a suicidal manner, was ordered by officers to put the gun down, that's when he started pointing the gun at officers.

Henderson Police officers shot and killed the suspect.
