LAS VEGAS - The former Las Vegas Valley Water District employee accused of stealing millions from the company pleaded guilty Tuesday to mail fraud and tax evasion.
Jennifer J. McCain-Bray, better known as J.J. McCain, 43, will be sentenced in Jan. 2019 and is looking at up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
McCain used her position as a purchasing analyst to defraud the water district of $6.7 million over the course of eight years without being detected. That's a much higher dollar amount and a longer period of time than what's been previously acknowledged by the water district.
Her scheme involved buying office supplies and having them shipped to the utility's headquarters then re-labeling and shipping the packages to a company in New Jersey in exchange for money.
