Newly released surveillance video shows the moments leading up to a crash that left a mother of four dead. 41-year-old Maribel Aleman died on Christmas Eve after police say a driver who was speeding, slammed into the car she was a passenger in.
The deadly wreck happened near Lake Mead and Pecos. Family and friends have created a memorial in the area at the crash site, with candles and photos, showing a life was taken too soon.
Maribel Aleman was in the car with her husband and son, and they were turning to get to the store when another car came out of nowhere hitting them.
On the surveillance video, you can see a black car hit the passenger side of Aleman’s car where she was sitting when her husband was making a left turn.
Police arrested Rigoberto Chavez-Solorzano who they say caused the crash. He faces three counts of felony reckless driving as investigators believe he was excessively speeding.
8 News NOW spoke to family members, who said they spent Christmas with heavy hearts this year.
Aleman’s brother says she was coming to a Salvadorian food store to get some bread when the crash happened.
Her 13-year-old son was also in the car and taken to the hospital in critical condition. But the family says he had surgery on his arm and leg Tuesday and is doing a little bit better.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money so that they can bury Maribel at her home in El Salvador.
