Construction starts Tuesday on a park named in honor of a Metro Police officer Alyn Beck, who was murdered in the line of duty.

Beck and his partner, Igor Soldo, were ambushed as they ate lunch at a pizza restaurant in northeast Las Vegas by a married couple who were anti-government extremists. Beck, Soldo, and a civilian were killed in the attack. The couple fled to a nearby Walmart, where they died in a shootout with police.

Officer Alyne Beck Memorial Park will be located in the Centennial Village area, near Skye Canyon Park Drive and US 95. It will feature lighted fields for soccer and lacrosse, a shaded playground, basketball court, and other amenities on 10 acres. Construction is expected to take several months.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the park is scheduled for Tuesday, December 18th at 2 p.m.  Beck’s widow is scheduled to attend, along with Metro Sheriff Joe Lombardo, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, and other dignitaries. The event is open to the public.
