Owners of ‘The Strat’ shelled out $140M in renovations and rebranding

Local News

In an effort to get people to revisit and rethink a famous iconic tower in Las Vegas, the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino has been re-branded as The Strat, Casino, and Skypod.

The renaming and rebranding was a billion dollar investment for Golden Entertainment, which purchased The Strat in 2017 for $850 million, and have invested $140 million in renovations thus far.

Every year more than one million people make their way to the top of The Strat to take in the view, enjoy the amusement rides or eat at Top Of The World restaurant.  But Strat owners want to get those visitors to stick around a while longer, so instead of the demolitions valley residents have seen in the past, Golden Entertainment focused on revamping the tower… and the observation deck- which will now be known as Sky Pod.

The Sky Pod boasts a view of the Las Vegas Strip like no other.

“A lot of what we’ve seen over the years; there’s been a lot of implosions and new construction. You don’t do that to this iconic tower,” said Steve Arcana, the chief operating officer of Golden Entertainment.

The Strat has an interesting history in Las Vegas.  In 1993 during construction, there was a fire that burned for three hours at the top. The incident even made national news.  The then-named Stratosphere went on to open in 1996 and survived for more than two decades.

The rebranding also aims to freshen up The Strat with new restaurants.  So far Golden Entertainment has opened four restaurants inside The Strat, along with 310 of what they call elevate rooms for guests.

Soon they will have two more additions: Boulevard Main, which is a casual taphouse that will open in late March, and View Lounge, an area that will be attached to Boulevard Main and overlook the casino floor.

So what will happen to that iconic sign for the Stratosphere?

Company executives plan to donate it to the Neon Museum with a caravan of cars sometime later this year.  Possibly as soon as September.
