Police arrest man suspected in burglary, robbery spree at numerous Strip properties

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Metro Police have a man who could be considered as a serial robber/burglar in custody.  Joseph Eddards faces six first-degree burglary charges, along with three charges of robbery with a deadly weapon.

It all started on Feb. 20. Metro Police said Joseph Eddards committed armed robbery in the parking garage of the Fashion Show Mall.

According to an arrest report, a man, who was later identified as Eddard, approached a woman from behind in the lower east parking garage from Nordstrom as she was about to get in on the driver’s side of her white Range Rover.  Before officers knew it was Eddard, the woman said the suspect was in his 20s and had a thin build. He was also dressed in all black and was wearing a black mask on the lower part of his face.

The report said when Eddard pulled a handgun, the woman took off running and screaming into Macy’s. When the woman returned to her car with police, they noticed that all of her bags containing items that she had just purchased from the mall were gone.

Mall surveillance captured a Toyota Corolla expeditiously and recklessly leaving the parking garage, nearly colliding with another vehicle. The car was thought to be that of the suspect.

Two hours later, that same day, Metro Police also investigated a robbery to someone in the MGM parking garage.  The victim gave the same suspect description and a similar vehicle to Eddard’s was also seen in the garage.

The woman said she was waiting in the car for someone to return when Eddard knocked on her window and opened her door. He allegedly pointed a black handgun at her and demanded “give me all the money,” the report said.

He also took her purse, her phone, and her keys. He threw her car keys under another car in the parking garage as he left, the report said.

An MGM parking attendant saw the suspect run and get into a white Toyota.

Eddards became the prime suspect in these thefts and numerous others. He was recognized by Henderson Police for the warrant for his arrest and taken into custody by the agency on March 28.

When he was arrested detectives discovered that the Dodge Journey Eddards was driving in was found to also have been used in auto burglaries at the M Resort Hotel and Casino.

After officers did a search of his belongings they found a black ski mask, along with an assault rifle with a loaded magazine.

The report said the following cars were used during the course of Eddards alleged crime spree:

  • Silver Toyota Corolla
  • White Toyota Corolla
  • White Nissan Altima
  • Black Dodge Journey

According to the report, Eddards robbed and burglarized people at the following locations:
Fashion Show Mall

  • MGM
  • M Resort
  • Spearmint Rhino
  • Cosmopolitan Hotel
  • Wynn
  • Palazzo
  • Aria

He made off with hundreds of dollars in cash, cell phones, a camera, shopping merchandise, and credit cards.
