Surveillance video shows suspect hitting, dragging nail salon worker

LAS VEGAS - Newly-released security camera footage captures the horrific moments a nail salon technician is struck by a customer's car -- that customer was fleeing after not paying her bill. Police are now calling that driver a murder suspect.

Metro Police identified 21-year-old Krystal Whipple as the suspect in the brutal hit-and-run death of nail salon worker. The agency also released surveillance video of the deadly incident.

According to officers, on Sat. Dec. 29,  after getting a manicure at a nail salon located in the 4900 block of West Flamingo Road, Whipple left the business without paying.  Metro said she told the staff that she would get cash from her vehicle to pay the bill, but instead drove off without paying.

The victim, 51-year-old Ngoc Q. Nguyen of Garden Grove, California, ran in front of the suspect’s car to stop her, but Whipple did not stop and struck Nguyen with her car.

Metro says Whipple was driving a stolen car which they later recovered at a nearby apartment complex. Court records show Whipple has a prior conviction for stealing a vehicle in 2016. Her known address at that time was a few miles from the nail salon.

Surveillance video of the incident is in the YouTube video below:

Nguyen was taken to University Medical Center Trauma where she was pronounced dead.

Nguyen's daughters are in town from California, helping out at their mother's shop. They did not want to speak on camera, saying they don't want to bring any more attention to the nail salon because business is already hurting since the incident and they don't want to be the reason why other employees don't get paid.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Krystal Whipple, or any information about this incident, is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section by phone at 702-828-3521, or by email at homicide@lvmpd.com. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385-
