LAS VEGAS - Metro Police Officer Bret Theil has been indicted on more than two dozen charges which include kidnapping, sexual assault involving a child, child abuse and endangerment.
The crimes all reportedly took place in North Las Vegas. Theil, 38, who was a veteran 20-year officer with Metro has been relieved of duty.
Theil was supposed to turn himself in Wednesday, but didn't. He is accused of threatening the victim when he found out about the indictment.
Prior to his arrest early Thursday morning, Theil kept police in a 10-hour standoff near U.S. 95 and Corn Creek Road about 25 miles north of Las Vegas.
According to the indictment, the crimes he is accused of took place between Aug. 2005 and Jan. 2017 and began when the child was only 7 years old. In total, Theil is facing 27 counts. The court documents describe disturbing details of repeated sexual abuse against the girl over the course of more than 10 years.
Theil has been booked into the Las Vegas city jail. Theil's bail amount has been set at $1 million.
