Las Vegas police say that a man in his 50s died in a crash that occurred on Fremont Street and East Sahara Avenue at approximately 12:14 a.m.

Evidence at the scene, witness statements, and video footage show a
2013 Triumph motorcycle was traveling southbound on Fremont Street approaching the intersection with East Sahara Avenue. A bicyclist was riding westbound across Fremont Street in the marked crosswalk. A crash occurred when the front of the motorcycle struck the bicyclist.

This impact forced the bicycle and bicyclist to the roadway and into the side of a 2016 Nissan Sentra, which was traveling westbound on Sahara Avenue. The bicyclist was transported to Sunrise Hospital and despite all life-saving efforts, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Impairment is believed to be a factor by investigators and the motorcycle operator, 35-year-old Daniel Althoff, was arrested.

This death marks the fifth traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
