Regents appoint Marta Meana as acting UNLV president

LAS VEGAS - A longtime UNLV professor and administrator has become the university's acting president.

The Nevada Systems of Higher Education Board of Regents voted Monday to appoint Marta Meana to the position.

Mean has worked for UNLV since 1997. She is currently the dean of UNLV's Honors College.

Meana will start as acting president on July 1st and serve until the university has completed their national search to fill the position permanently.

An acting president carries out all the duties of the president until the permanent appointment is made, according to NSHE policy.

Former president Len Jessup resigned after accepting another position at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California.
